

John was born in Houston, Texas on November 4, 1930. He graduated from the University of Houston in 1953 with a Bachelors of Business Administration-Accounting degree and continued on to receive a Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree in 1956 from the University of Texas.
John was married to Norma Jean Steed on December 29, 1954; they were married for 28 years until her passing on June 28, 1982. John remarried Margaret Gamel in 1983 and was married to Margaret until his passing.
John worked as an attorney for several different law firms and worked in private practice until his passing. John was very active in his profession and gave many lectures, wrote many articles and received many awards. John was a passionate supporter of the University of Houston in both academic and athletic endeavors and served on many boards and committees. John was also very passionate and genealogy and served 8 years as President of the Southern Heritage Ball.
In his last will and testament John stated, “To your mother, Normal Jean Moncure, I give to her my eternal gratitude and thanks for giving me such wonderful children. To your sister, Jean Ann Moncure, and to your brother, Stuart Richard Moncure, I give the following: My undying love, my sad remembrances and my regrets that their lives were cut so short. All of my love to all of my marvelous children and to your spouses and to all of my grandchildren to whom I wish I could have spent more time.“
John was a good man, a good husband, a good father, a good grandfather and a good friend. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him and loved him.
John is survived by his wife Margaret Moncure, his sons John Moncure, Mike Moncure, Doug Moncure, his daughter Mary Moncure, his step-daughter Anna Lee Buckingham, his grandchildren Amanda Moncure, Aubrey Gann, Jack Worley, Rose Worley, Stuart Worley, John Moncure, Will Moncure, Jose Moncure, Francisca Moncure, Marisol Moncure, Johnathan Buckingham, William Buckingham and other family and friends.
John is preceded in death by his 1st wife Norma Jean Moncure, son Stuart Moncure, daughter Jean Ann Moncure, father Walter Raleign Daniel Moncure, mother Margaret Moncure.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Monday April 10, 2017 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 4900 Jackwood St., Houston, Texas 77096 and the officiate will be conducted by Reverend David O. Browder of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Forest Park Funeral Home and Cemetery. Reception to immediately follow at Escalante’s Tex-Mex Restaurant, 5900 Meyerland Plaza, Houston, Texas 77096.
