

John David Radcliffe was born on February 1st, 1951, in Ramsey, Isle of Man. He was the second child of William and Margaret Radcliffe. John received his early education from Miss Wilson’s Private School, Albert Road School, and Ramsey Grammar School. He entered University at Queen Elizabeth College, University of London where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in 1972. He went on to study in graduate school at the University of Aberdeen where he earned both a Master’s and Doctoral Degree in nutrition. He was a recipient of a research fellowship at the Agricultural University, Wageningen, The Netherlands. John emigrated to the United States after accepting a Fogarty International Fellowship at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland in 1978.
At the end of his fellowship, John accepted a position as Research Nutritionist at the Illinois Institute of Technology Research in Chicago, Illinois in 1980. In 1982, John moved to Houston, Texas to accept the position of Assistant Professor of Nutrition at Texas Woman’s University-Houston Center, where he was awarded tenure and promotion to full Professor and retired in 2013 after 31 years of service.
In 1991, John met Jerry Johnson and together they made a home and a life that lasted over 34 years. In 1993, John became a naturalized U.S. citizen for which he was very proud. He was the recipient many awards and honors from many local, regional, and national organizations over the years, including election to the American Institute of Nutrition, the American Association for Cancer Research, and election to Phi Kappa Phi National Academic Honor Society.
John leaves behind to cherish his memory and legacy; his partner Jerry; brothers, Richard and Robert; sisters-in-law, Helen and Lillian; very special friends, Janet Lawton, Charles Agee and his husband, Randy; and a host of family, colleagues and friends. He leaves behind a life well-lived.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Paradise Funeral Home, Inc, located at 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088, United States. The service is scheduled for January 17, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
