Johnny Douglas Clark

John Douglas Clark was born on October 13, 1949 in Beaumont, Tx to parents Ace Clark, Sr. and Lela Migues Clark, who preceded him in death. John gained his heavenly wings on April 4, 2022, at HCA North Cypress Medical Center in Cypress, Tx.

John graduated from Herbert High School in Beaumont in 1968. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1971 and spent the next 20 years serving his country. During his enlistments, he was stationed in Fort Polk, La, Berlin, Germany, and Korea.

John received several medals and badges while in the Army, including the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Occupation Medal (Berlin), Good Conduct Medal, Aircraft Crewmember Badge, Senior Army Aviator Badge, Drill Sergeant Identification Badge.

John’s Military Education included Warrant Officer Training Candidate Course, Rotary Wing Aviator, Aviation SWOT Course, and Instructor Pilot Course.

John was proud of the time he spent in the Army. One major accomplishment was being accepted in the Instructor Pilot course. He was one of very few African American solders accepted in the course at the time. He worked his way up in the ranks, and at the time of his retirement, his rank was CW3, which is Chief Warrant Officer 3. CW3s are experienced tactical and technical experts in their specific military craft, recognized by members of the military as advanced experts.

Returning to Beaumont after retirement, John worked several jobs to keep busy, before settling in Houston, Tx. He worked for 1st Transit/Metro bus system as a supervisor for 15+ years before hanging up his work clothes for good.

John leaves behind to mourn, his wife of 12 years, Mary Nelson Clark, a brother, Ace Clark, Jr, (Beaumont, Tx), two sons, Darnell Clark (Beaumont, Tx), Douglas Clark (Los Angeles, Ca), one daughter, Toya Mares Clark, (Houston, Tx), six grandchildren, one great grandchild, and two close friends, Floyd Lee (Houston, Tx), and Vincent Jeanpierre, (Baton Rouge, La).
