It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jonathan Darell Coulson, a beloved son, brother, and friend, who left this world on November 8, 2023, at the age of 42. Jonathan was born on December 10, 1980, in Jackson, Mississippi, and now rests among the honorable that have gone before him.
Jonathan's journey in life was marked by resilience and determination. Despite facing challenges, he earned his GED and later achieved an Associate's degree from San Jacinto College, before pursing his bachelor's at the University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado. He had a passion for neuroscience and an innate curiousity to unravel the mysterious of what it is to be human.
A 100% Disabled Veteran, Jonathan's bravery and sacrifice for his country will forever be remembered. He found solace and joy in the companionship of Xenna the Malingator, who faithfully accompanied him on his travels around the world.
Jonathan's love for adventure extended to his passion for travel, camping, and hiking. For Jonathan, God's hand was where the Earth touched the Sky, and the peace of the streams and mountains could be experienced up close.
He is survived by his grieving family, who will hold onto cherished memories: his mother, Donna Barfield Coulson; his father, James Russell Coulson Sr.; his brothers, Thomas Robert Coulson (Cindy), James "Jimmy" Russell Coulson Jr., Draconis Brandan Lehner [Brandan Coulson] (Jaclyn); his sisters, Laura Katherine Coulson (Deyi Kong) and Chloe Coulson Mancil (Ryan Mancil).
Jonathan is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, William "Wild Bill" Barfield and Diane "Momo," and his paternal grandparents, Clarence Richard "Rich" Coulson and Rosemary "Grandma Honey."
A celebration of Jonathan's life will take place at the American Heritage Funeral Home, 1710 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, Texas 77038. Visitation hours are from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. The gravesite ceremony will commence at 1:15 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Jonathan's honor to a veterans' charity of your choice.
May Jonathan's adventurous soul and indomitable spirit forever rest in the arms of the Creator of the universe and his precious son Jesus Christ.
