“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7 NKJV
On April 8, 1931 in Kountz, TX, the Lord blessed Joel and Autholia Gregory with their first born son whom they named Jonathan Gregory. Around the age of 8, the family moved to Houston, TX. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. A. A. McCardell.
Deacon Gregory was educated in the Houston Independent School District and graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School. He enlisted in the United States Army where he served two years before being honorably discharged. He furthered his education at Texas Southern University. He was employed and later retired after many years of service with the United State Postal Service.
Deacon Gregory was a man of honor and integrity who loved God, his family, his church, and community. He was a member of Sweet Home Missionary Baptist for many years under the leadership of Pastor Edward Collins. He later moved his membership to Loving Word Fellowship under its current pastor, Bishop. Paul D. Landrew. He lived a rich, full abundant life that God had promised him.
Deacon Gregory was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Stephanie B. and Veronique M. Gregory, wife, Cora Gregory, and brother Rev. Harold Gregory.
He leaves to cherish his memories: one daughter, Dawn Moses, 4 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, friend-in-love, Ms. Renell Jones, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and church family.
“We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8 NKJV
