Joseph “Joe” Au went home with the Lord on the morning of February 16th, 2024 at the age of 72. Throughout his battle with cancer, he remained strong and faced all challenges with a smile until the end. He was a caring, patient, and loving husband, father, son, and brother.
Joe was born on September 26th, 1951 in Hong Kong, China where he grew up with his parents and siblings. As the eldest child, he was independent and protective of his six brothers and sisters.
In the 80’s, Joe came to the U.S. His first job was working as a server at an American Chinese restaurant. In 1991 he met Winnie, the love of his life, while working together. They fell in love and got married on July 17th, 1993. Soon after, they started their first business together, a small store in a flea market called Jojo’s. Three years later they welcomed a daughter, Jo-Annie, to this world. With perseverance and a lot of hard work, in 2004, they opened up a wholesale business and named it JoJoWinn; the name was a combination of their names: Joseph, Jo-Annie, and Winnie. The name served as a reminder that family always came first. Joe and Winnie supported each other through life’s various hardships and continued to operate JoJoWinn for another 19 years until 2023.
While taking care of the business, Joe always made sure to spend time with his family. Joe loved spending time in the kitchen where he shared many recipes and fueled his daughter’s passion for cooking. There in the kitchen, many warm and happy memories were made. And many delicious meals! One of his favorite dishes to make was Macanese Style Portuguese Curry Chicken. It always satisfied a craving for something hearty and warm. His quiet but gentle and warm personality will be missed dearly by all who knew him. Joe is survived by his dear wife, Winnie; his daughter, Jo-Annie; and five of his younger siblings.
