Joyce Dean Gilmore

Joyce Dean Gilmore was born on May 26, 1943, in Houston, Texas to her loving parents Myrtle Dean Andrews and Walter Andrews.

Joyce attended George Washington Carver High School, where she met the greatest love of their life, her high school sweetheart, Clarence Gilmore. Eager to start their new lives together, they married in 1961. To this union four adorable children were born: Joycelyn, Tami, Clarence “Theo”, and Jon.

Everyone who knew Joyce knew how much she loved to share her fond memories about her favorite hobbies such as ballet, camping, gardening, and her love for animals, especially animals of Africa. She also loved reading, watching TV, playing her favorite music, and most importantly, checking in on her beloved family.

Joyce had a soft spot for her furry friends, treating each and every one like the valuable family member they were.

Joyce will always be remembered for her unconditional love and the way that she never ended a conversation. We’ll always imagine hearing her say “Please be careful!” one more time. We couldn’t have asked for a better grandparent, mother, and sibling, and will miss Joyce every day. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Walter, and Myrtle Andrews; husband, Clarence; sisters, Evelyn, and Judy; brothers, Walter Jr., Cyrus, and Kenneth; great-grandson, Ethan.

She is survived by her brother Harold (Margie), sons Clarence and Jon; daughters Joycelyn, Tami (Trey), and Bernadette; grandchildren Mercedes (Zachary), Britani, Daniel (Tiffani), Che’rrell (Alejandro), Kamen (Makenna), Ray (Omezha), Travis (Daija); great grandchildren Evan (Katie), Aiden, Brooklyn, Skylar and Kairo; great-great grandchild Ethan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends, and acquaintances.

Joyce’s passing leaves a void that cannot be filled but will always be remembered.

A memorial service for Joyce will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2025 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at Paradise Funeral Home, Inc, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088.
