Ruby Joyce Oppermann Toellner passed away on Thursday, the 11th of August 2016. Joyce was born in Lyons, Texas, on New Year’s Day, 1932, and graduated from Somerville High School on the 27th of May 1949. She became a licensed Vocational Nurse on the 1st of June 1950 after training at John’s Clinic & Hospital Training School, in Taylor, Texas. Joyce was practicing that profession when a patient came under her care, the mother of a young Texas Aggie named Norman Henry Toellner. She and Norman were wed on Christmas Day, 1951.
Norman preceded Joyce in death. Joyce is survived by her and Norman’s three children, Paulette Kay Toellner Hime and husband Jim, of San Antonio, Texas, Pamela Sue Toellner Griffin and Michael Lloyd Toellner, both of Houston, Texas; and their three grandchildren, Dr. Travis James Hime of New York, New York, Joshua Michael Gibson Hime of Osaka, Japan, and Paul Michael Griffin of Houston Texas. Also surviving are her brother, Jimmy Oppermann and wife Linda of Caldwell, Texas; and her sister, Connie Richter and husband Wilbert of Brenham, Texas.
Despite the challenges of her last few months, Joyce never lost the kind, sweet and gentle manner that caused all who knew her to love her. She loved people in return and never failed to show it, and she liked nothing better than to party and dance, although there’s been precious little of that here lately. She’s freed up to party and dance now, and we know she is going to want to make up for lost time. Norman, we hope you’re ready.
