Judy Kay Hamil LaFico of Houston, Texas passed away on Friday, September 20th at the age of 73. She was born on October 16th, 1950, in Corpus Christi Texas. At the age of 4 her family moved to Memphis Tennessee where she was raised, prior to moving to Houston Texas in 1970.
Judy attended grade school at Germantown Elementary School, high school at St. Agnes Academy in Memphis and attended college at the University of Alabama (Roll Tide).
She worked as a flight attended for Delta Airlines in her 20’s. Later on, she worked in commercial property management, and was a substitute teacher for Fort Bend ISD. During the last 20-years of her life she worked as both a very successful residential real estate agent, and from 2015 onward, as the manager of the Memorial office for Better Homes and Gardens Garry Greene.
Judy was very proud of the fact that she developed a wonderful relationship with her agents. Her enthusiasm was barred none. When she would receive calls from her agents with an update on their successful sales, she was like a mother looking at a child's report card with all A's.
She was very straightforward and direct in developing and her team. She understood and conveyed that if you followed the process and worked hard you would succeed.
In addition to her work and her Gary Greene family, she was actively involved in and passionate about her children’s education, their sports, travel with her husband (Italy, Africa, the Grand Cayman and France), her friends and her family.
She is preceded in death by her father, Gilbert Hershel Hamil (AKA Buddy), and her mother, Janet Hilda Poimboeuf Hamil (AKA Gran Janet).
She is survived by her husband, Joe LaFico, her two sons, Joseph LaFico and Joshua LaFico, her daughter-in-law Andrada LaFico, and her two sisters, Janice Hamil, and Jill Lake, Jill’s husband Earl Lake and numerous nephews and nieces along with grandnephews and grandnieces.
The family would like to thank the staffs at Houston Hospice, Memorial Hermann, Oncology Consultants, as well as care givers Ann Belisle, Kimberly Abdullah, Merle Ronstant, Princess Celestez for the care and compassion they showed Judy in her final days.
Family and friends are invited to attend Judy’s “Birthday Party” on Saturday, October 26th, 2024 at 10:00 am at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, located at 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77079.
