She was the daughter of Overton and Pauline Banks of Houston. Julia graduated from Bellaire High School, class of 1959. She attended the University of Texas and the University of Houston. She married James W. Cox Jr. in 1961. Julia taught physics at Westchester and Stratford High Schools in Spring Branch.
She is survived by her daughter Karen Nickel, husband Cliff, her son John Cox, wife Colleen, her four grandchildren Kayden and Carleigh Nickel, and Rowan and Rhett Cox, her sister Margaret Taylor, niece Clare Richardson, and nephew David Richardson.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday November 27th at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home located at 12800 Westheimer Rd. Houston, TX 77077.
