Julian grew up picking cotton in Wharton, Texas. In 1957, his family relocated to Houston to work with his father in construction. He never forgot his roots and helped others relocate too. As the eldest of 12 children, Julian became the head of the household when his father passed away unexpectedly in 1964. He met Concha in Houston in 1961, and they were married at Our Lady of Sorrows in 1965.
With the need to support his mom, siblings, new wife and children. He moved out of construction to work at Herrod Brothers Furniture Store in the Heights and cleaned offices at night, which became a family affair for extra income. In 1984, he rejoined construction at (Duty) but ended his career as foreman and 2020.
Julian never met a stranger. He was always ready to greet with a joke, a laugh, a handshake, and a hug. He had a deep love for his mother and greeted her with a kiss on the hand almost daily. Julian was always helping someone, whether he was called upon or just happened to run into someone in need, day or night. The number of people he helped could never be counted, and we can only hope to hear as many of those stories as possible.
Julian was a fun-loving guy who celebrated every birthday and holiday with family, friends, and Miller Lite. He had a giving heart, whether it was buying a car part, a new tire, delivering a box of chicken, lunch, or cookies. He always thought of others. No matter the issue, he could help or knew someone who could. Julian was inviting and easy-going, with a young-at-heart personality, and he wanted everyone to enjoy life as he did. He always expressed his love for his wife children and family.
However, Julian became ill shortly after Christmas. By January, he just did not feel well. After the doctors adjusting his blood pressure, he still required more examination in the emergency room. He was released but declined further with weakness. On February 20, he has a slip going to the rest room; but he said he was fine. By morning, he would not wake up and was rushed to the Hospital.
He was very sick. A tumor covered more than half is liver and the cancer spread to his lungs. With an unforgetting heartache, he passed away on February 24, 2025, at 9:37am.
Many thanks to those who loved him throughout the years, and especially to his devoted wife of 59 years.
