Kandi Wiley was born on June 17, 1970 as the second and youngest child of Marion and Beura Lee (Williams) Wiley in Houston, TX. As a child, Kandi loved going "back home" to Midway, TX with her parents to visit family. She also loved going back when it was time for homecoming Sunday at the Midway Church of Christ.
Her father served as an elder and her mother as church secretary at the Highland Heights church of Christ for many years. After witnessing such commitment to the church, by her parents, Kandi obeyed the gospel call and was baptized for the remission of her sins at or around ten years old. At which time, she began to learn to trust God and in His word in her life.
Kandi also loved music. Kandi attended and graduated in 1988 from, Aldine Eisenhower high School. During that time, she participated in choir. She did so well in her high school choir, she made the all-state choir and also traveled to Australia and New Zealand to participate in choir events.
Kandi was blessed to receive a full scholarship to attend Rice University to study music. Kandi graduated from Rice University in 1994 with her Masters degree in music and Vocal Performance.
Following, she received her teaching certificate from the University of Houston. Kandi then began her teaching career. In the beginning, Kandi taught elementary music for several years in Houston ISD. She then taught high school choir for thirteen years in Klein ISD and middle school choir in Spring ISD.
Kandi especially loved teaching middle school. She always said, the kids were more impressionable and she had more opportunity to shape and mold them.
In 2015, Kandi and her family began attending church at Bammel Church of Christ. She became very involved in several ministries and church life. However, the ministry she especially loved was the Praise Team ministry. Kandi already loved singing, but she especially loved singing about the goodness of her heavenly Father! She had previously sang and performed in other Christian groups, one of which was the Lively Stones.
Kandi met and married Alvin Poole in 1995. To this union two children were born. Kiana LaShae Poole and Alvin K. Poole, Jr. (Maritza).
Kandi was preceded in death by her father, mother and older sister, Sheila Marks. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband Alvin, her two biological children Kiana and AJ, one daughter in law, Maritza and her "bonus child" Ms. Erie Benson. She also leaves to mourn a host of relatives, friends, coworkers, former students and one fur child, Zara.
A visitation for Kandi will be held Saturday, June 21, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Bammel Church of Christ, 2700 Cypress Creek Pkwy, Houston, TX 77068, followed by a funeral from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
