Karen Marie Hurbrough

Karen was born on April 14, 1963 in Jacksonville, Florida, to mother JoAnn Jung and father Jerome Jung. She was preceded in death by her brother Michael Wayne Jung (1994) and mother Karl JoAnn Jung (MeMe), October 31, 2015.

She grew up in Jacksonville, Florida and moved to Texas in 1980. Here she started a career at Amoco Oil Industries which later became BP Oil. She worked here for many years as an Executive secretary.

Karen married Michael Hurbrough in 1991 in Houston where the couple lived and raised their three children. Karen attended Houston Community College and later decided to leave the workforce to become a full-time mother and wife. Karen periodically volunteered at their children's elementary schools and was very involved in their education.

Later Karen returned to the workforce with BP as a Training Coordinator. Karen was also a Supervisor of the BP Macondo Call Center during and after the crisis in the Gulf. After that Karen went back to her previous Training Coordinator position and worked until she could no longer carry out her duties due to her illness.

Karen was a driven professional, who had a love of reading, solving Sudoku puzzles, and later she took comfort in knitting. When diagnosed with cancer in 2015, she remained dedicated in her will to fight her illness and be strong in her faith. Hummingbirds held a special meaning to Karen as a promise from God to answer her prayers. She often saw them after praying and believed them to be a sign from God that everything would be alright. She remained a brave woman, dedicated daughter, wife, and loving mother and sister, even throughout her final months.

Her surviving children remember her as a strong and courageous, brilliant woman and a patient mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals. She will be deeply missed and also remembered as a beautiful woman with an equally beautiful heart. She always had the best advice and helped many friends and loved ones.

She leaves behind her husband, Michael Hurbrough; her daughters, Rachel Hurbrough, Leah Hurbrough, and son, Michael Hurbrough, Jr.; along with her brother, Alan Jung, and father Jerome Jung.
