Karla graduated from Smiley High School and attended the University of Houston. She met Dick Jones in Onalaska, TX and they were married on January 5, 1995. Karla had a career in mortgage banking on Wall Street and traveled all over the country.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Melvin “Dick” Jones; parents and step-parents, George & Jodi Smith and Betty & Jimmy Walker; 3 sisters, Arla Skarness, Lynn Wallace, and Jon Sirmons; 2 nephews, Jimmy Brinkley and JR Christian; niece, Tammy Steagall Thacker; and last but not least, her much loved pets, Bo Valentine Mack Barker Bleu and Rounder Jones.
Her memory will be cherished by those surviving her: sons, Carter Pyland & wife Gabriella of Wildwood, MO, Dennis Pyland of Katy, TX, and Trent Pyland of Farmington, MO; sister, George “Ann” Brooks & husband Robert Brooks of Montgomery, TX; brothers, Troy Keeton & wife Pam of New Caney, TX, Brack Keeton of Hondo, TX, and Lightning Sirmons of Matagorda, TX; grandsons, Jacob, James, Chris, Kenneth, Jose, and Colby; her great-grandchildren who called her ”G.G.”; and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Honoring Karla as pallbearers are James Strange, Jacob Strange, Sean Strange, Chris Pyland, Kenneth Pyland, Jonas Brinkley, Steven Westfall, and James Westfall, and as honorary pallbearers, Jeff Keeton and Matt Garland.
All services will be held at Brookside Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. A visitation for Karla will be held Tuesday, June 3, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Celebration of Life Service will occur Wednesday, June 4, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM followed by a Committal Service from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM.
