Though we could easily relay a series of facts of an individual's life, we
treasure this opportunity to share with you a birth and a journey that
changed our lives forever - Kevin's Story.
Leroy and Eddie B. Scurry became the proud parents
of a baby boy on March 22, 1967. Kevin brought such
joy to his family and literally became everybody's
baby. His faith in Christ was affirmed at an early age
as he accepted Him and was baptized at St. Stephen
Baptist Church, now the Loving Word Fellowship
Church. Growing up at the church he was most
beloved, and quickly became the cherished church
baby of Sis. Gena Anderson, Sis. Margaret Felder and
Sis. Lillie Haynes. Kevin loved his church, his pastor
and the oil and would keep himself shiny all day.
Life-long friendships were a recurring theme spanning his years at Allen
Elementary, Black Middle School and the prestigious Booker T. Washington
High School, where he was a part of the Mighty Eagles football and
basketball teams, graduating in 1986. It was a motif that carried well into
his career through the aisles of Builders Square and the halls of Ben Taub
General Hospital where he earned the affectionate nickname, "Bubba".
Pursuing his passion, he transitioned to truck driving after a 1 O-year hospital
I
career, paving the way for him to follow in his father's footsteps. He honed
his skills at the Houston Community College Truck Driving School and
fulfilled his driving dreams for over a decade.
To know him was to understand that he would always lend a helping hand,
blessing others with every opportunity. His heart was a home for both his
family and community - as well as his favorite team, "Dem Boyz" - because
he was forever a fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
Beyond words, Kevin's caring resonated in his actions. Nearing the
homegoing of his own mother, he promised that the next chapter of his
aunt's life would be one in which he would care for her with the utmost
concern. Their lives were intertwined with love and laughter as he fulfilled
his commitment with his whole heart.
Today, his journey is remembered and will continue to be retold by Tyressia,
Kiera, Rashad, Raegan, Alfretta, Larry, Auntie Mildred and Aunt Pam. His life
will be celebrated by his close cousins, extended family and friends as all
will continue to hear and tell of the details of each chapter in his amazing
journey.
His story will touch us all for a lifetime.
We will miss you, Bubba.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no
evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Psalm 23:4
