Kristen Alyssa Ruiz

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Kristen Alyssa Ruiz, 25, of Houston, TX. She met Jesus on May 19 after a courageous and fiercely fought battle with Sanfilippo Syndrome.

Born on June 16, 2000, to Roberto and Silvia Ruiz, Kristen brought an immeasurable amount of joy, light, and unconditional love into the world. Though her life was far shorter, she experienced a lifetime of love.

Sanfilippo Syndrome is a rare, terminal, and unforgiving disease, but Kristen faced it with extraordinary resilience alongside her mother, her most trusted caregiver. Through her care and God’s mercy, Kristen lived far longer than expected. Throughout the progression of the illness, she never lost her fighting spirit or ability to communicate love without words. She taught everyone around her the true meaning of patience, unconditional love, and how to find beauty in the simplest of moments.

Kristen had a deep love for her family, merry-go-rounds, McDonalds, watching the movie Toy Story and attending daily mass. She was a constant companion to her mother, whom she depended on for everything and whom gave her the upmost care.

Kristen is lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her parents, Roberto and Silvia; her siblings, Robert, Vanessa, Sara and brother in-law, Guillermo Roque; her grandmothers, Ignacia Ruiz and Maria Báez, and a vast village of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who loved her. She is preceded in death by Marciano “Don Chano” Báez, and Fiacro “Paco” Ruiz.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Kristen’s doctors, nurses, and the MPS society, as well as the tireless caregivers who supported her with dignity and compassion.

A celebration of Kristen’s life and beautiful spirit will be held on Tuesday, May 26, from 4-8 p.m. at Brookside Funeral Home-Champions located at

3410 Cypress Creek Pkwy, Houston, TX 77068. The family warmly invites all who knew and loved Kristen to attend and celebrate the joy she brought to this world.

A Catholic mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 27 at 11 a.m. at St. Ignatius Catholic Church located at 7810 Cypresswood Dr, Spring, TX 77379. The Mass will be followed by her burial at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery at 1 p.m. located at 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060.

Kristen’s life has not ended, it has merely changed. She fought the good fight and is now partaking in the Heavenly feast.

Con profundo dolor anunciamos el fallecimiento de Kristen Alyssa Ruiz, 25, de Houston, TX. Se unió con nuestro Señor Jesucristo el 19 de mayo, después de una larga y valiente batalla con Síndrome Sanfilippo.

Sus padres, Roberto y Silvia, la recibieron en este mundo el 16 de junio, en el año 2000. Kristen nos brindó inmensa luz y alegría y un amor puro e incondicional. Su vida, a pesar de ser tan corta, estuvo llena de amor.

Síndrome Sanfilippo es una enfermedad rara, incurable, e implacable. Aún así, Kristen la enfrentó con resiliencia, junto con su madre, su más grande cuidadora. Por sus tiernos cuidados y por la misericordia de Dios, Kristen vivió más allá de lo esperado. A lo largo de su enfermedad, Kristen nunca perdió su espíritu de luchar ni de comunicar su amor sin palabras. Nos enseñó el significado verdadero de la paciencia, amor incondicional, y cómo encontrar la belleza en los momentos más simples.

Kristen amaba profundamente a su familia, le encantaba el carrusel, McDonalds, ver la película “Toy Story”, y asistir a misa diaria. Fue la inseparable acompañante de su madre, en quien dependía para todo y quien le dio los mayores cuidados.

Con el más grande amor, Kristen será recordada y extrañada por sus padres, Roberto y Silvia; sus hermanos, Robert, Vanessa, Sara, y cuñado, Guillermo Roque; sus abuelitas, Ignacia Ruiz y María Báez, además de numerosos tíos, tías, primos, y amigos. Es precedida en muerte por sus abuelitos, Marciano “Don Chano” Báez, y Fiacro “Paco” Ruiz.

La Familia Ruiz quiere expresar su más grande agradecimiento a todos los doctores, enfermeras, la organización MPS, y todos quienes apoyaron y atendieron a Kristen de manera incansable, digna, y compasiva.

Una celebración de la bella vida y espíritu indomable de Kristen se llevará acabo el martes, 26 de mayo, de 4-8 p.m. en Brookside Funeral Home-Champions ubicado en 3410 Cypress Creek Pkwy, Houston, TX 77068. La familia cariñosamente invita a todos quienes conocieron y amaron a Kristen a celebrar el regalo de la alegría que nos trajo a este mundo.

La Santa Misa se celebrará el miércoles, 27 de mayo, en la Iglesia San Ignacio, 7810 Cypresswood Dr, Spring, TX 77379. Después se le dará santa sepultura a la 1 pm en Earthman Resthaven Cemetery, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060.

La vida de Kristen ha cambiado; no ha terminado. Luchó la buena lucha y ahora participa en el banquete celestial.
