Doug was born on November 2, 1945 in Houston, Texas. He graduated from St. Anne’s School, and St. Thomas High School in Houston. He played football, basketball, was an honor roll student, and member of the Scitamard Drama Club. He attended the University of Houston for two years. He had a niche for journalism and wrote for the college newspaper. On June 17, 1967 he married the love of his life, Mary Ann. Doug worked hard his entire life in the commercial equipment leasing industry to provide for his wife and family. He retired in 2013.
Doug was an immensely loving and caring person towards his family and friends. He was extraordinarily passionate about music, especially country and rock oldies; inspired by many artists, including one of his favorites, Roy Orbison. Doug went on to become a talented musician himself who would captivate us with his astounding voice, guitar and piano skills.
He loved cars and car shows, especially those of the classic/vintage era. He enjoyed his travels to Colorado and many other states with his wife and family. He was a sports spectator and played basketball up until the age of 50. He was a Christian man that held firm to Christian values. He recently became a member of Bays Chapel Church in Richards, TX. Doug loved and was loved by the church family there. He was a zealous patriot and supporter of our constitution. Boy, did he know his history! He could discuss all of his interests and opinions with an intensity that could make the whole room roar! Doug treasured his weekends in the “country” up north, riding his tractor, sitting with a “cold one” in his hand, while peacefully watching the Texas sunset through the forest pines. He had an original and witty sense of humor, a “getter done” attitude incorporated with a touch of southern ingenuity. He was his own handyman.
Doug battled a variety of health conditions since the age of 51, and though life threw him a multitude of curveballs, his tenacity never allowed him to fumble. Self determination allowed him to live vivaciously for his family and for himself.
Doug was a true gentleman, one of a kind, a last of his generation whose presence made an unforgettable impact on us all. We will forever hold onto and cherish his kindness, affection, humor, strength, resilience, leadership, generous and loving spirit.
