

Laveda Jean Simpson Hendley, 76, of Spring, Texas, went to be with the Lord on June 16, 2024. She was born in Houston Heights Hospital, on February 26, 1948 to her loving parents, T. R. “Buster” and Essie Simpson. Laveda graduated from Sam Houston High School, a year early, in the summer of 1965. She was married to Gerald David Hendley on June 14, 1965 and they shared their lives together until his passing in 1993.
Laveda worked in the mortgage industry, in education, and in her absolute favorite position as an assistant chaplain in the Harris County Jail, where she carried out her ministry calling, serving the incarcerated and their families.
She is survived by her only daughter Tracey Hendley Elizalde; son-in-law Stephen Elizalde; granddaughter Sarah Abigail Rose Elizalde; and grandson Troy Michael Elizalde. She is also survived by her only brother Randy Simpson and wife J.B.; along with nieces Tanya Ross, Sharai Kingston and nephews Dan Fuller and Doug Fuller. There are many other precious cousins and friends who were a part of her life.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held Thursday, July 11th @ 6:30 pm at New Covenant Church, 901 Wilson Road in Humble, Texas. A dinner/ fellowship for all will follow directly after the memorial.
