Lennon Poore

Duke attended William Randolph Elementary and South French Broad Junior High School in Asheville, NC. He continued his education at West Port High School in Kansas City, Missouri, graduating valedictorian of his class. While disc jockeying in Kansas City, he found a passion for music. He became known as the following: Doctor Funky-Stein, Jazz Man, C-Note and U-Jam. Duke truly loved music and was the life of the party. That same passion carried over into his family, work, and church.

Career: Staff Sergeant Lennon (Duke) Poor’e served in the United States Air Force, and was honorably discharged after 11 years and 10 months.

Duke was appointed as the Executive Assistant for Pastor Roderick D. Dawson at St. Paul A. M. E Church. Over the last decade he served in numerous ministries, and was a true servant of the Lord. He was a wonderful husband and excellent father. “Let’s Make It Happen” is a quote he lived by. He loved cooking and being with his family, never missing a family function. Duke’s passion for cooking started with his grandmother. She shared all of her recipes with him and her grandchildren. He was truly a grandma’s baby.

Duke went home to be with the Lord on December 21, 2021. He leaves his precious memories with his Beloved Wife of 22 years, Sharon Poor’e.

Children: Euridice Poore, Jeanette Poore, Lennon (DJ) Poore Jr. (Sharice), Dalvin Ervin, and Chaddrick Butler Ervin.

Duke leaves five brothers: Cecil Jr. (Alice), Roosevelt Poore (Sofie), Ronald Poore (Carleen) Jeffery Dillingham (Linda), Tyrone Dillingham; two sisters: Lolita Harrison (William), Tosha Austin (Ervin).

Grandchildren: Tony, Kamilah, London, Kayla, Kiarra, Makenzie, Gabriel, Sharon, Michael, Anthony, Dalvin Jr. and a host of nieces and nephews who he loved dearly, and extended family and friends.

Work History/Achievements: Duke started working in IT (Technology) in 1989.
