

Lillian Anita Barnett, formerly Lillian Anita Hockett, was born on March 11, 1939, in Atchison, Kansas. She peacefully departed from this world on October 2, 2023, at 84 in Houston, Texas. Lillian's passing was a moment of profound sadness for her family and friends.
Lillian dedicated her life to the noble calling of a homemaker, creating a haven of love and warmth for her cherished family. She was a devoted mother to her children: Vanita E. Moore (Mark), Van Stedman Barnett, Jr., Gerald D. Barnett (Sabrina), David J. Barnett (Andrea), and Michael W. Barnett. Lillian's love extended to her grandchildren: Julius A. Moore (Gina), Marcus D. Moore, Danielle Anderson-Douglas (Paul), Van Stedman Barnett, III (Haley), Jessica Barnett, Gabrielle Barnett, Gerald D. Barnett, II, David J. Barnett, II, Marquis David Thibodeaux, and Christian Alexander Thibodeaux. She also leaves behind her beloved siblings Sonia J. Faust, Willis "Buster" J. Hockett, Jr., and Gloria Hanna. Lillian's legacy will continue through her six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lillian's educational journey began with her graduation from High School in 1957. She later pursued higher education at Wichita State University, where she nurtured her thirst for knowledge.
Lillian's devotion to her family and community was evident in her active involvement as a Girl Scout Troop Leader and PTA President at Lorena Oaks Elementary for West Orange Cove ISD. She selflessly dedicated her time and energy to shaping the lives of young individuals. Lillian was also a proud Charter member of the Top Ladies of Distinction (TLOD Oran-je Chapter) where she served as President and a Top Teens Advisor, each for four years embodying the values of service and compassion. Her love for animals, especially dogs and cats, brought joy and companionship into her life.
Lillian found solace and strength in her faith, worshiping at Mount Sinai Baptist Church of Orange, Texas. She served faithfully on the Usher Board, exemplifying her commitment to her spiritual community.
Lillian's departure has left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her unwavering love, kindness, and dedication to her family will forever be etched in their memories.
The memorial service honoring Lillian Anita Barnett's life will be held at the Paradise Funeral Home in Houston, Texas. Her final resting place will be at the Houston National Cemetery beside her beloved husband Van Stedman Barnett Sr.
