鄧林桂芳於1931年8月6日出生於中國福建省廈門縣鼓浪嶼,父親林靄民和母親蘇金定。 她在鼓浪嶼和老家福建省永定縣洪坑長大。 從洪坑小學畢業後,她和父母移居香港,先後就讀於香港真光初級中學和廣州市真光高級中學。
1949年在廈門大學讀書期間,她決定與哥哥和他最好的朋友鄧權昌一起前往台灣高雄。
林桂芳於1950年在中華民國高雄與鄧權昌結婚。在丈夫擔任中華民國駐菲律賓、美國和西非的外交官期間,她一直扮演支持丈夫的角色。 在這些職位上,她經常在許多外交使團婦女組織擔任志願者,並在婦聯會擔任領導職務,所有這些都充滿了快樂和責任感。 她也先後任職於舊金山的加利福尼亞銀行、洛杉磯的工會聯盟和紐約的聯合國。 她將被她的家人、朋友和同事們銘記為一位始終充滿榮譽感、責任感和同情心的女性。
林桂芳和鄧權昌共有三子一女。 她身後留下兩個兒子、五個孫子和三個曾孫。 她的丈夫鄧權昌、女兒鄧蘭芳、兒子鄧林芳和孫女鄧孟華均已去世。
Lin Kwei Fong Dunn was born on August 6, 1931, to father Lin Ai Ming and mother Su Chin Ting in Gulanyu, Xiamen County of Fujian Province, China. She spent her formative years growing up in Gulanyu and at her family’s ancestral home in Hongkeng, Yongding County, Fujian Province. After graduating from HongKeng Elementary School, she and her parents moved to Hong Kong where she attended True Light Middle School in Hong Kong and later True Light High School in Guanzhou, Canton Province.
While attending Xiamen University in 1949, she decided to visit Kaoshiung with her older brother and his best friend, Kan Cheong Dunn.
Lin Kwei Fong married Kan Cheong Dunn in Kaoshiung, Republic of China, in 1950. She stood by her husband’s side as he served as a diplomat for the Republic of China in the Philippines, the United States, and West Africa. During these postings, she often volunteered with numerous Diplomatic Corps Women’s Auxiliary Organizations and served in a leadership position with the National Women’s League, all with joy and a great sense of responsibility. Her career in the U.S. included the Bank of California in San Francisco, the Teamsters Union in Los Angeles, and the United Nations in New York. She will be remembered by her family, friends, and peers as a woman with always a great sense of honor, responsibility, and compassion.
Together, Lin Kwei Fong and Kan Cheong Dunn had three sons and one daughter. She is survived by two sons, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Lin Kwei Fong is predeceased by her husband Kan Cheong, daughter Angela, son Benno, and granddaughter MengHua.
A visitation for Kwei-Fong will be held Friday, May 12, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077.
A funeral service will occur Saturday, May 13, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077. A committal service will follow.
