Lisa Lynn Carpenter peacefully passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2021 with her husband, Kevin and family at her side. She was born in Salt Lake City on February 24, 1962, the eldest daughter of Lorelee and James. Even as a small child, Lisa’s curiosity was abundant and she was already “on the go” to accomplishing whatever she put her mind to. She sailed thru high school with academic awards and extracurricular adventures like band, dance team and school majorette. At only 18 years old, Lisa won the title of Miss Kansas-USA and proudly represented the state in the Miss USA competition where her creativity and humor was awarded a top prize for best costume as a stalk of wheat.
She followed her love of nature and science by earning her BS in Geology from the University of Houston and went on to earn her MBA. She worked in energy exploration and business consulting in Houston while making the city her home.
Lisa’s greatest joy came from her family and friends. Lisa met and married Kevin, 21 years ago. Together they loved and nurtured Ross, Kelsie and Hannah. They blended their families with caring and fun into what it is today. Over the years, Lisa has shared her beloved friends with her family creating a large group of loved ones.
As a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, she loved deeply and cherished all the relationships in her life. As a courageous ovarian cancer warrior for 14 years, she tirelessly fought for life and selflessly gave all she could to the people and causes she loved.
She is dearly missed but her beautiful spirit and grace continues to reveal itself in those she loved and always through God’s natural world. She will look after all of us.
Lisa wrote this poem and I think she would like it shared with you
Fiery Wings by Lisa Carpenter
There they are,
Strange little black and gray sleeping bags
Clinging to the rough brick wall,
Under the ledge, along the window frame.
Splattered like mud across the warm red surface,
They draw heat from within to shelter from the autumn air.
Though they appear twisted and gnarled,
The occupants peacefully slumber.
Suspended in solace,
They dream until transformed.
Once awakened,
They leave their refuge and reach for
The sun’s embrace
With fiery wings.
Lisa is survived by her loving husband Kevin, children Kelsie and Ross, niece Hannah, her parents Jim and Lori Boyd, sisters Jodi and Trisha.
