Following his honorable discharge in 1950 he began a successful 35-year career with Southern Pacific Railroad in Lafayette, Louisiana. In 1964, he was transferred to Houston, Texas where he worked until he retired from Southern Pacific in 1986.
Lloyd had a lifetime of community service. He believed that it was important to not only give of your fruits, but also to give of your time and talent which he did with great honor. His community service began in Lafayette, where he attended Our Lady of Fatima Parish and was active in the Knights of Columbus serving as a Deputy Grand Knight. After transferring to Houston, he attended St. Anne’s Catholic Church where he served in many positions of ministry, including President of the School Board. For the past 37 years he has been a member of Notre Dame Catholic Church in Houston, where he served in many positions in ministry including Chairman of the Finance Council, and in 2004 was honored as the The Servants of the Servants of God Ministers of Excellence Award at Notre Dame. Lloyd was very proud that all four of his children completed twelve years of Catholic education; and throughout his life made it a priority to support Catholic education by giving of his time, talent and treasure.
Beginning in 1991, his greatest passion was serving as the Vice President for Communications for the Serra Club of Southwest Houston and as Editor for the Club’s newsletter, the Friar. The Serra Club is a worldwide organization of Catholics whose mission is to foster and affirm vocations to the ministerial priesthood and vowed religious life.
As Editor of the Friar, he published a bi-weekly newsletter that was widely distributed to the Pastors of 25 parishes, the Bishops of the Diocese, the Office of Vocations, the Presidents and Vice Presidents for Communications of all Clubs in the District, the Principals of all Catholic high schools in Houston, the Rector and Vice-Rector of St Mary’s Seminary, The District Governor, the USA Council Regional Director, Serra International and the USA Council. In 2004, he received the Award for Outstanding USAC Newsletter of the District and also received the District Governor’s Award in recognition and grateful acknowledgement of his personal commitment to the goals and mission of the Serra Club and for his faithful service to the District and Serra Club of Southwest Houston. He served the Serra Club faithfully up until the last year of his life when failing health limited his ability to serve.
Lloyd believed and practiced his Catholic faith, he truly saw the face of Jesus in each and every person he met and raised his children to do the same.
