

Lois E. Courtney went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 19, 2013. Born October 10, 1924, in Angelina County, Texas to Bessie and Fred Tyler, Lois moved to Houston as a young girl and lived as a neighbor to Carson E. Courtney. She and Carson married on Christmas Eve, 1924, following the Sunday church service, and they began serving the Lord together, working with the youth in the Pentecostal Church of God and traveling in Texas and Oklahoma to conduct revivals and youth meetings. Lois played the Mandolin and Carson the guitar and singing was always part of their ministry. Later they pioneered and pastored churches in Austin, Ft. Worth, Waco, Aransas Pass, Corpus Christi, and Houston. Lois also worked for the Memorial Hospital System in Houston for many years. She and Carson spent their retirement years in Point Blank, Texas near Lake Livingston gardening, growing beautiful roses and plentiful vegetables. They were active members of Onalaska Assembly of God church. Lois’s warmth, hospitality, wisdom, caring ways, and steadfast faith left a mark on many people.
Lois now waits in heaven for her husband, Carson. She is also survived by daughter, Shirley and her husband, Robert Morris; son, Carson, Jr.; and daughter Nelda and her husband Rayman Hounsel; sister Ruth Kisselburg and sister Evelyn and her husband, Bert Waggoner. She leaves 3 grandchildren: Robert Jr., Gina, and Carla; 6 great-grandchildren Jaclyn, Trevor, Madilyn, Robert III, Victoria and Fiona.
