

Jeanette Hooper went home to be with the Lord on June 29, 2011. She is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth; her son, Kirk Hooper, and his wife, Judy, of Houston, Texas; and her daughter, Debra, and her husband, Rick Sala of Grand Prairie, Texas. Her grandchildren were the light of her life: Kody and Jenna Hooper and Amanda, Tina, Nathan, and Sara Sala. Her surviving family includes her brother, Jerry Deason; her sister, Jane Pavey; her aunt, Barbara Walker; a special cousin, Dorothy Dupree; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. She cherished her family.
Jeanette was a life long Christian being baptized at St. Mark United Methodist Church and grew up in Houston. She graduated from Reagan High School in 1955 and attended Sam Houston State Teachers College receiving a Bachelors of Science degree in Home Economics. Jeanette worked in public education, serving as a paraprofessional at Sinclair Elementary. She taught by example.
In high school, when she was 15, she met Kenneth. They married in 1958 at St. Mark United Methodist Church remaining devoted to each other for 53 years. Being a community and church volunteer was Jeanette’s passion. Ken was her partner in giving support and encouragement to those whose lives they touched with their faith and leadership. She was a youth counselor at church; she was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader; she served on the Harris County Family Council, advocating for families with older adults in nursing homes; she started an elementary school square dance club; and she and Ken volunteered at The Gathering Place and were members of the BOLDER group, the Faith in Life and the Candlelighters Sunday School Classes at Chapelwood United Methodist Church. She lived her faith by serving and praying for others every day. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00PM Saturday July 2, 2011. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday July 3, 2011 in the Memorial Oaks Funeral Home Chapel, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079.
