Born on March 24, 1931, Louis was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who expressed his love and pride in his family throughout his life.
Louis was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, to Peter Louis Karvelas and Angeliki (Boubiotis) Karvelas. The family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where Louis completed high school before attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston. After serving his country for two years in the United States Army, Louis completed his master's degree at Harvard Business School. Louis moved to Houston in 1956 to start his career as a chemical engineer. While attending church in Houston, he met his wife, Connie, and the two were married in 1959. Throughout their marriage, they enjoyed traveling, spending time with family, and forming many cherished friendships together.
Louis was an avid reader, with a thirst for knowledge, intellectual curiosity, and intelligence that was never pretentious. He loved talking with all kinds of people about any topic and enjoyed asking questions, showing a genuine interest in the answers. Both family and friends will remember him for this endearing quality.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Connie (Boozalis) Karvelas, their children, Peter and Kim Karvelas, and Mary Lynn and John Pergantis; as well as his grandchildren, Nicole and Angel Pergantis, his nephews Steve and George Boozalis, and their wives, Jane and Debbie. He also enjoyed spending time with his many grand-nieces and nephews, their spouses, partners, and children.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the many doctors, nurses, and caregivers who tended to Louis with care and compassion.
