Mrs. Louise Schwartz Jacobs

Louise Jacobs passed away, while surrounded by family, on Sunday evening, the 18th of November 2012. On the 10th of November, she had suffered a fall and broke her hip; and as a result, was unable to recover. She faced the event as she had heart disease and cancer, with tremendous bravery, strong spirit, deep wisdom, and unfailing humor. Illness never deprived her of the beauty or feisty personality beloved by so many.

Louise was born in Houston on the 29th of September 1927, the only child of Isadore and Gertrude Schwartz. She graduated from San Jacinto High School and went to Sullins College in Virginia, before graduating from Sophie Newcombe College in New Orleans, where she was a member of A E Phi sorority. On a date in the French Quarter, she met Dr. Warren Jacobs, whom she later married.

Her world revolved around her family, and she was devoted to her sons, their wives, and her grandchildren. Her friends knew she was unique, and more than one thought of her as a personal best friend. Young and old alike loved being around her. She was admired for freely speaking her mind and doing it with quips that were as insightful and colorful as they were funny.

She is survived by her sons: Mark, Larry, and Stephen Jacobs; her daughter-in-laws: Julie, Lorraine, and Linda Jacobs; her newly married granddaughter, Kristin Thomas, wife of David Thomas; grandchildren: Chloe, Catherine, Jacqueline, and Scott Jacobs; cousin, Lois Joseph; and family member, Marie Thomas.

The family desires to express their deep gratitude to her caregivers, Elodia and Keisha; and also to her physicians, Drs. Neff, Lufschanwoski, Columber, Singh, and Grimes, for their exemplary medical care. The family also wishes to convey their thanks to the nurses of St. Luke’s, 7 south 2 - especially Rory Lettvin - for their expertise, attention, and compassion.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock this afternoon until eight o’clock this evening, Tuesday, the 20th of November, in the library and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.

The funeral service and interment is to be conducted at eleven o’clock tomorrow morning, Wednesday, the 21st of November, in the Proler Chapel of Beth Israel Memorial Gardens, 1101 Antoine Drive in Houston, where Adrienne Scott, Associate Rabbi, is to officiate.
