Lucille Marsalise Stevenson, age 80, of Houston, Texas passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2021. Lucille was born February 15, 1941 in DeRidder, Louisiana to Rosa Marsalise and Ben Marsalise.
Lucille had a strong love for faith and family and she was loyal to a fault. As a person who thought of others before herself, she made countless sacrifices for her family over the years. Never short of quick-witted comebacks, she was a very caring person who ran an organized household, managing her teaching career along with keeping her husband and two very active boys in line.
Lucille was a school teacher for over twenty-seven years across various grade levels (first thru fifth). Twenty-five of those years were spent in the Alief Independent School District and two years in DeRidder, Louisiana. She was a longtime member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association and a attendant of St. Justin Martyr Catholic Church.
Lucille cherished her time playing Bunco with friends and enjoyed old movies and reruns of comedy shows. She especially loved to cook (but liked going out to eat even more) and really liked her sweets—which her husband of 54 years, Rod, was always trying to ration out. In her younger years, Lucille also spent time organizing photos of family, her children’s activities and vacations into numerous scrapbooks to preserve the memories in a meaningful manner.
Lucille’s strong will always set her up for a challenge, but she finally met her match when she had to learn how to use a computer and mouse. She confessed that she didn't care if she ever learned how to use it and she never did acquire that talent. As a stickler for clean teeth, Lucille made her children use an egg timer to ensure they brushed for the full three minutes.
Lucille is survived by her husband, Rod Stevenson; son Mark Stevenson (Cathy Stevenson); and son Scott Stevenson; brother Lee Marsalise of DeRidder, Louisiana and sister Vivian Goodman of Shrevport, Louisiana; grandchildren Megan and Ryan Stevenson of Cypress Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lucille was preceded in death by father Ben Marsalise and mother Rosa Marsalise; brother Carl Marsalise; brother Benny Marsalise; sister Catherine Rourke and sister Mary Ann Robertson.
