Lunetta Mitchell, born in Beaumont, Texas in 1954 to Luther Sharpe and Helen Weston, peacefully transitioned on June 1, 2025, at the age of 70. She was a woman of deep faith, immense love, and unwavering dedication to God’s call on her life.
She attended South Park High School, where she was known for her intelligence, strong spirit, and leadership. It was in her early years that she discovered her love for serving others which began shaping the bold woman of God she would become. Later, she continued her education and spiritual training at Kingdom Builders Bible Seminary, a foundational step in her life’s purpose.
Lunetta persevered through many trials and tribulations before she met and married Lane Mitchell. Although their relationship wasn’t perfect, through their 35 years of marriage, they built a union based upon faith, laughter, and shared vision. Their life together was a sacred reflection of God’s grace—an enduring testament to the vow, ‘till death do us part'.
She is survived by her beloved siblings: Lutherette Cormier, Pheobe Snell, Willie Mae Sharpe, Rosie Sharpe, Lillie Sharpe, and Lawrence Sharpe. She was the proud mother of four children: Savana Lagard, Steven Lagard Jr., Willie Lagard (daughter-in-law Ja’me Lagard), and Derek Wallace (daughter-in-law Esther Wallace). Her love for her children was matched only by the joy she found in her grandchildren: Victoria Leblanc (son-in-law Deontre Leblanc), Shantell Lagard, Jalen Davis, Isaiah Lagard, Danae Lagard, Laila Johnson, Gabriella Lagard, Ne’Areiah Lagard, Esme Lagard, Neko Lagard, Camilla Lagard, Righteous, and Sebastian Lagard.
Lunetta shared a special bond with many people in her life but there were four women in particular with which she created a special bond who would be known as the “Golden Girls”. From childhood they were practically inseparable throughout their lives. Through every season of life, Lunetta, Mary Edison Greer, Patsy Reed, Pamela Barnes Davis (deceased), and Debra Barnes LeBlue exemplified the true meaning of friendship.
Lunetta was a passionate servant of the Lord. She was the founder of House of Hope, a transitional living facility for newly released women on parole in need and Tree of Life Ministries, a powerful apostolic ministry whose reach extended across the globe—including India, Guyana, Ghana, and throughout the United States. Her bold and prophetic voice touched countless lives and inspired a generation of leaders, pastors, and believers. She was a spiritual mother, teacher, and intercessor who lived and ministered under the unction of the Holy Spirit. Lunetta served faithfully as a chaplain for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, most notably at the Darrington Unit (now Memorial Unit) in Rosharon, Texas. Her work extended through the Voyager and Wrap Around Programs at Plane State Jail and beyond, where she mentored, counseled, and led with compassion and conviction. She also volunteered with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, HPD, and precincts 3 and 5. Over many years of service, she helped transform broken lives into testimonies of healing and redemption. She was also an active member and leader within multiple church communities including Good News Christian Fellowship Church in Galena Park, Texas, and ministries throughout the Houston area. Her influence spanned pulpits, prison cells, street corners, and sanctuary altars alike.
Everyone who knew her knew how much she loved to laugh and share stories. Lunetta will always be remembered for her spiritual boldness, her kindness, and the way she always made time to minister—whether to a stranger in need or a family member in distress. We’ll always imagine hearing her say, “To God be the glory!” one more time. We could not have asked for a better mother,
grandmother, sister, mentor, or friend. She will be deeply missed every single day. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all those she inspired, healed, and led to Christ.
