Lydia Ferrin was born Amalia Joaquina Lydia Ferrin Lopez on December 5, 1928 to Manuel Ferrin Iglesias and Maria de las Nieves Ferrin Lopez in Havana, Cuba. When she immigrated to The United States in December of 1961 she legally became Lydia Ferrin.
Lydia was preceded in death by her son Luis Manuel Castresana and siblings Manuel Ferrin Lopez, Adda Munoz Repiso, Elvira Ferrin Lopez, Ramon Ferrin Lopez, Jose Ferrin Lopez, and Aurelio Ferrin Lopez. She is survived by her daughter; Lydia Junek and her spouse Gary of Houston; sisters Maria Canas and Olga Ferrin Madruga of Miami; two granddaughters, Alexa Lane and her spouse Michael of Houston and Amanda Junek of New York; and two great grandchildren, Andi Lane and Hayden Lane.
Lydia came to the United States from Cuba in 1961 with her son Luis. Lydia raised her children alongside her siblings and their children and worked as a parking attendant and a manicurist on Miami Beach for many years. Her favorite weekend past time in Miami was gathering with friends and family at the Havana Vieja. She also cherished the many adventures throughout Europe with her sister, Olga, and traveling to Houston to visit her children and grandchildren until she moved to Houston in 2004.
Lydia was known for her zest for life, her Cuban signature dish of chicken salad with asparagus and carne asada. Lydia made the best Cuban espresso with "espumita" outside of Calle Ocho. She spent many Saturday evenings watching Sabado Gigante with her grandkids, and was proud to celebrate the birth of her great grandchildren. She was a proud member of Fuente de Esperanza, the Spanish Church at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, and has made many friends from there over the years.
The family would like to thank Cristina and Dayana for their care and companionship to Lydia throughout her time in Houston.
Her service and burial will be held at 2pm on Friday, August 29th, 2025 at Woodlawn Park North Cemetery and Mausoleum, 3262 S.W. 8th Street, Miami, FL 33135.
