Lynnette Shepherd Mayes blessed the world with her presence on May 2, 1963, in Houston, Texas, born to proud and loving parents Mr. A.J. Shepherd Sr. and Mrs. Jewel Airline Shepherd (preceded in death).
Raised in a God-fearing home, Lynnette accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Faith Missionary Baptist Church. She graduated from Kashmere Senior High School and dedicated over 33 years of service to MHMRA/The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD, where she supervised, mentored, and trained colleagues. Loved by both coworkers and clients, Lynnette’s kindness touched countless lives.
On July 5, 1997, Lynnette married the love of her life, Joseph Mayes. Together they were blessed with one son, Joseph Mayes Jr. Lynnette was the epitome of a devoted wife, nurturing mother, cherished sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Though the youngest child, her family lovingly called her “Mother” for her unselfishness and dedication.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband Joseph Mayes Sr., son Joseph Mayes Jr., brothers A.J. Shepherd Jr. (Cheryl) and Willie C. Shepherd, sister Deborah Shepherd, brother-in-law Lawrence Mayes Sr., sisters-in-law Fredia Frazier (Thomas Sr.) and Cynthia Mayes-Jackson (Harold), along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and dear friends.
