

Manuel Ochoa Maldonado, 91, of Galveston, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2018. Born on July 7, 1927 in Westhoff, Texas, he was a lifelong resident of Galveston. Manuel served as an American Merchant Marine during World War II, and participated in the Korean and Vietnam Wars as a Merchant Seaman. He retired from service as a 3rd Class Engineer and was a member of the US Seafarers and American Maritime Officers Unions.
Manual enjoyed fishing, boating, and his beloved championship team the Houston Astros! He also cherished good, light-hearted conversations with family and brought smiles to those around him.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Theresa Alaniz Maldonado; daughter, Mary Maldonado Branson; sisters, Ester Torres and Dora Flores. He is survived by two sisters, Lupe Sabatell and Mary Quintero, of Houston, Texas; daughter, Sylvia Maldonado Castillo of Friendswood, Texas; daughter Yolanda and husband Bobby Cronin, of Kenner, Louisiana; son Manuel Maldonado Jr., and wife Linda, of LaPorte, Texas; grandchildren, Adrian Castillo and Melissa Castillo of Baytown, Texas, Brian Castillo and wife Shannon, Charlotte Pena and husband Jason, of Pearland, Texas, Christina Maldonado of LaPorte, Texas, Matthew Maldonado, Kelly Maldonado of Fort Hood, Texas, James Maldonado and Frankie Walker, of Houston, Texas; and six great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be held in Manuel’s honor from 9:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 inside the chapel of American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038. A Celebration of Life service will take place at 11:15 a.m. with a procession to follow to the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038, at 12:45 p.m. where he will be laid to rest with honors.
