Marc Azard, 77, left this world to join his Lord and Savior on August 2nd, 2014 at 2:05 p.m. Marc peacefully went into the Lord’s graces whilst listening to his favorite spiritual song “Santo, Santo, Santo” as sung by family members and loved ones at his home in southwest Houston.
Pastor Azard was born in Camagüey, Cuba on February 7th, 1937 to Haitianborn parents Thelemarque and Livie Scilly Azard. Pastor Azard was the oldest of four siblings, Louis, LaPierre, and Caridad. Pastor Azard was a faithful servant of God, and his unyielding trust in God and his desire of self betterment through education guided Pastor Azard in many important decisions in his life. These decisions ultimately led Pastor Azard to find his calling: to live a life devoted to assisting those in need through mission work and immigration law.
In 1965, Pastor Azard left Haiti and immigrated to the United States in the pursuit of an American education. Faith guided him to Houston where he attended the Church of God Bible College on scholarship. After completing his Ministry degree, Pastor Azard attended Texas Southern University graduating with a degree in Spanish and a J.D. in Immigration Law. Faith also guided Pastor Azard to a chance encounter at TSU where he would meet his loving spouse, Esther. The Lord blessed the couple trice over with the arrival of their beautiful children-Marc in 1979, Andre in 1981, and Rebecca in 1982.
Pastor Azard provided years of legal representation to incoming immigrants entering to the US. He also helped in creating mission programs across Houston, including working with the international ministry at South Main Baptist Church in Houston, Texas known as Main World. Throughout his ministry, Marc was the pastor of Iglesia Bautista de Betania in Baytown, Texas and Iglesia Bautista de Trinity in Houston, Texas. Pastor Azard started Misson Bautista Westbury which developed into a Hispanic congregation known as Iglesia Bautista de West End Church in the Heights neighborhood of Houston. At the time of his death, Pastor Azard was the Pastor of Iglesia Bautista de Hermanos.
He is survived by his wife, Esther of 41 years; his youngest son Andre; his daughter and
soninlaw, Rebecca and Will Jackson; his eldest son and daughterinlaw, Marc and Rochelle Azard; his three grandchildren, William Marc, Alex, and Tobey; his brother and sisterin laws, and several nieces and nephews.
The passing of Pastor Azard leaves an empty void in the hearts of his family, friends, and loved ones. Though feelings of grief marks memories of his last few days on earth, there is a sense of solace, knowing that he is free of pain and discomfort caused by his illness. Family and friends take comfort that he is at peace with the Lord.
