Margaret Davidson Bolling joined her Lord in heaven on Thursday, the 8th of May 2025. She was 92 years of age. Born in Cuba, Alabama in 1933, she was the second child of Joseph Chesleigh Davidson and Margaret May Davidson. Her early years were filled with singing in the Cuba Baptist Church and cheering for Sumpter County High School. Upon graduation, she attended Auburn University (War Eagles!!) and earned a degree in Nutritional Sciences. After interning at Vanderbilt University, she became a registered and licensed dietician.
Her expertise in dietary services led her to Houston where she served as the Director of Food Services at the V. A. Hospital. She convinced her sister, Marianne Davidson Jacks, to move to Houston as well. They joined South Main Baptist Church where they sang in the choir. The musical duo sang for church services, assemblies, and events. While in Houston, she met the love of her life, Jefferson Davis Bolling, III, to whom she was happily married for thirty years. They had two sons, Jefferson Davis Bolling, IV (Jay) and David Andrew Bolling.
When Jeff and Margaret moved outside of Houston’s 610 loop, she knew she needed to get involved in a church closer to home. She joined Second Baptist Church in 1966, where she faithfully served for almost sixty years. Whether leading the hymns in Bible Study, greeting guests in the Nursery, or guiding people on a tour of the worship center with a stained-glass gospel presentation, her gift was making people feel welcome. Her Lord and her church were top priorities, so, if the doors to the Church were open, she was there with her family.
As a loving mother, she was ever present, ever cheering, ever positive, and ever giving. Those qualities exploded with grandchildren! Known as “BonBon” henceforth, she encouraged “her bumblebees” to love the Lord, dream big, and remember that “presentation is half the meal.” She was southern to the core, priding herself on being a member of “GRITS” (Girls Raised In The South). She was known for her southern charm, her Alabama accent, her “Certainly Red” lipstick, and, of course, her gloves.
Above all, Margaret’s life is marked by her love for Jesus. In her later years, whenever someone served her or spoke to her, she would respond with “I see your crown.” She wanted everyone to know that God loved them, that she loved them, and that she wanted to see them in heaven with her where they too would receive their crown of righteousness.
Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Jefferson Davis Bolling, IV; son, Jefferson Davis Bolling, III (Jay); and sister, Marianne Davidson Jacks.
She is survived by her son, David Andrew Bolling and his wife Dianna Jackson Bolling; four grandchildren, Joseph Paul Bolling, Claire Elizabeth Bolling, Caroline Grace Bolling, and Emily Dianna Bolling; and sister-in-law, Hilda Bolling Edwards. She is also survived by her nephew, Stephen Daniel Jacks and his wife Alisa Suit Jacks, and children, Alaina and Caia; and her niece, Sarah Elizabeth “Betsy” Jacks Riley and her husband Mitchell C. Riley, and children, Katherine and Andrew.
