

Margaret was born in Palestine, Texas, to Tom and Emma Gready. After her family moved to Houston, they first lived in the Heights. Margaret attended the new Reagan High School and in 1930 graduated from Rice Institute.
Margaret then taught school and in 1933 married John C. Bybee, a young lawyer and businessman. Her public teaching ended with the arrival of her first child. Margaret enjoyed playing bridge, reading, and being with friends and her large extended family. She loved her PEO sisters and served as president of Chapter Q. She was a Sunday School teacher for the Cathedral Class for sixteen years and a longtime devoted member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Many Saturdays were enjoyed volunteering at the Bluebird Resale Shop. Margaret actively participated in her garden clubs and her children’s activities. She was a room mom, a scout leader, and chaperone. Margaret was an active Rice Alumna.
For several years prior to her death, Margaret lived at the Hallmark. The family would like to express their deep gratitude for the caring attention she received.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Bybee; her parents Thomas G. Gready and Emma Eliza Gready; her brothers, Dr. Thomas G. Gready and Dr. Donald M. Gready; and her sister, Elizabeth Gready Britton. She is survived by her brother, Howard F. Gready; her son, John Clinton Bybee, Jr. and his wife, Dean Bybee; her daughter, Mary Elizabeth Bybee Brown and her husband, R. Grady Brown; grandson, Clinton Lee Brown; granddaughter, Mary Margaret Brown; and many generations of nieces and nephews who fondly call her “Aunt Margaret”.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening on Tuesday, the 16th of November, in the Library of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A memorial service is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 17th of November, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 5501 Main Street in Houston, where Dr. L. James Bankston, Senior Minister, is to officiate.
Prior to the service, the family will have gathered for a private graveside service and interment at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.
