August 23, 1936 – October 31, 2025
With deep love and sadness, the family of Margaret L “Marge” Davis announces her passing on October 31, 2025, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 89.
Marge was born on August 23, 1936, in Milan, Tennessee, to Ray and Mary Childress. When she was sixteen, she and her mother moved to Houston, where Marge attended Lamar High School. She was an excellent student and often spoke fondly of her high school years. Her circle of close friends—the “Lamar Girls”—remained an important and joyful part of her life for decades.
It was during those high school years that Marge met the love of her life, Jerry Davis. They married in 1955 and shared seventy wonderful years together—always side by side, holding hands until the very end.
Jerry’s work in the oil industry took them across Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and even overseas to Iran. Marge embraced each adventure, enjoying travel and the experiences that came with it. Yet her greatest passion, by far, was her family, where she was known as Mimi. Whether celebrating every milestone or offering comfort through every challenge, Mimi was her family’s heart—cheering, listening, loving, and giving endlessly. Mimi loved her role as family Matriarch and rarely did a holiday, birthday, wedding or graduation occur without a family gathering. Many family and friends were lifted in her daily prayers or mentioned at the Good News Sunday school class. Mimi was a firm believer in the power of prayer.
Mimi was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Childress and Ray Childress, and by her beloved grandson, Clayton Davis. She is survived by her devoted husband, Gerald B. “Jerry” Davis Sr.; her sons, G. Brooks Davis Jr. and Stephen Davis (Patti); her grandsons, Gerald B. “Trae” Davis III, Lyle Davis (Rebecca), Ross Davis (Lauren) and Jordan Davis, and great granddaughters, Makenzie, Eleanor, Brynn & Scarlett.
A memorial service celebrating Marge’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 13, at Memorial Drive UMC, 12955 Memorial Drive, Hou, TX 77079. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Willbern Heritage Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 1048, Bellaire, TX 77402, or to Memorial Drive United Methodist Church at [email protected].
Mimi’s love, kindness, and strength will live on through the family and friends she cherished so deeply.
