Margaret was born September 28, 1941, in El Campo Texas to the late Milton Kainer and Regina Rolf Kainer. She graduated from El Campo High School in the Class of 1959 and received a bachelor’s degree in education from Sam Houston State University in 1963. On April 19, 1965, she married her late husband Alvin George Mock. Together they raised their daughters Stephanie and Kristine. Margaret dedicated her career to public education. She began her teaching career in Klein ISD before moving to Houston ISD, where she taught both elementary and middle school students, leaving a lasting impact on many young lives. She retired from HISD after 30+ years of service.
She was a devoted grandmother, helping to raise her four grandkids and never failing to attend their ballgames, concerts, dance recitals or plays. In retirement, Margaret enjoyed traveling with friends and family. Margaret loved visiting the beach, the lake, and anywhere her grandchildren could be found or her girlfriends wanted to go. Her adventurous spirit and love for her family were evident in all that she did. Some of her most memorable trips included following her beloved Houston Astros to road games around the country with friends.
She is survived by her daughters Stephanie Matlock and husband Michael, Kristine Carroll and husband Chris, grandchildren Travis Carroll and fiancé Malley Morales, Aubrey Carroll, Jeremy Matlock and Calvin Matlock, and her sisters Barbara Green and husband Donald, and Nancy Mehrens.
