Margaret Cecelia Smith, known as Peggy, was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 16, 1955, to Edward and LaVerne Crosson. Peggy passed away unexpectedly on July 27, 2019. Peggy was a graduate of St. Agnes Academy in Houston and attended Sam Houston State University, where she met the love of her life, Bruce Smith. Married on February 19, 1976, they began their life together in Houston. Peggy and Bruce built a life centered around family, friends, and raising their three daughters. Their 6 grandchildren brought them tremendous joy.

While her children were young, Peggy spent time working at a preschool program, volunteering in the school library and working with Girl Scouts alongside all three daughters. As her children grew, Peggy re-entered the workforce by taking a job at Braswell and Associates and then Perry Homes. She spent fifteen years with Perry Homes working as a hostess.

Peggy had a passion for kids and helping them learn. She worked to build relationships with even the toughest of students in her many capacities in CFISD. In 2006, Peggy took a job with Sheridan Elementary School, beginning her career with CFISD. In 2010, she found herself on a new adventure, helping to open Emery Elementary. Peggy would then take off a few years to care for her parents, returning in 2018 to Lee Elementary. Peggy made a difference with everyone she touched.

Peggy is survived by her loving husband Bruce, and their three beloved daughters, Lori Brown and husband, Travis; Christi Reeves and husband, Jason; Megan Cordova and husband, Daniel. Peggy had six grandchildren, Nicholas, Nathan, Avery, Ryan, Ella, and Ryleigh. Peggy was joyfully awaiting the arrival of her seventh grandchild Cordova in January of 2020. She also leaves behind two sisters, Kathy Rios and her husband, Arthur of Houston, and Susan Schnee of Phoenix, Arizona, two brothers, Edward Crosson and his wife, Diana of Cypress, and James Crosson and his wife, Cindy of Friendswood, a sister-in-law, Betty Stewart, and husband, Mack of Houston, brothers-in-law, Wayne Smith of League City, and Kenny Smith and wife, Carole Smith of Kemah, and many loving nieces, nephews and godchildren.

The family will receive friends at a vigil service on Thursday, August 1, 2019 from 5 p.m. to 8p.m., at Brookside Funeral Home - Cypress Creek, 9149 Highway 6 North, Houston, TX 77095.

So sad to hear about the loss of such an old friend. Grade school and high school would not have been the same without her. Rest in peace my friend. I know we will see each other again. Thoughts and prayers from The Edvardsens!

It’s really hard to find the words to express my love for Peggy. I have been blessed to be part of Peggy’s family since marrying Charlie in 1993. There are countless Thanksgiving feasts which brought our families together. Though our hearts are broken, Peggy’s hearty and joyful laugh keeps resonating in my mind! Her infinitely generous spirit, and most of all her dedication to Bruce, Lori, Christy, and Megan taught me a lot about being a mom myself. It was too soon, Lord, but there is comfort in that Peggy’s legacy is alive and well in each of her amazing daughters and grandchildren.

I will always remember Peggy and her happy spirit. Every morning she stood at the library door greeting students at Lee Elementary with her kind smile. I will miss her and her kindness. Rest In peace Peggy!
