In her younger years, Margarita attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, where the nuns of the Congregation of Divine Providence introduced her to the First Friday Devotions to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a devotion she maintained until her death.
Later, she was a long-time member of Our Lady of Sorrow Catholic Church, where she continued her First Friday devotion, helped in the kitchen making breakfast and enchiladas, and cleaned the church.
At home, she helped raise her younger sisters after their mother passed away, and was a mother-figure to nieces and nephews and influential to successive generations.
It is appropriate that her favorite color was green, the color of life, as she loved growing flowers, and feeding the cats and birds that came into her yard.
Her reception in Heaven is sure to be great, with all the family and friends who have gone before her, in addition to the saints to whom she had special devotions, including St. Anthony of Padua, St. Frances of Assisi, St. Martin de Porres, and, of course, Our Mother Mary and the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Margarita was preceded in death by: brothers Rodolfo, Antonio, Salvador, Ralph, and sisters Sister Mary of the Angels MCDP and Rosa Rodriguez.
Margarita is survived by her sister Dolores Benignus and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
Services were held Friday, June 5, 2020 at St. Jerome Catholic Church with burial at Forest Park Lawndale. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 3006 Kashmere St., Houston, TX 77026.
