Margie Mary Daly

She is survived by her children, Kathy Fenske and husband Larry, Stephanie Logan and husband Matt, Susan Carll and husband Tom, Deborah Loukanis and husband Doug, John Daly, Jr., Michele Payne, 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Margaret Hrabal; brothers, Teddy and Sonny Hrabal and son, Michael Daly.

She was a mother, wife, daughter, sister, teacher, friend and homemaker, and “Mamma Daly” to all the kids in the neighborhood.

In her childhood the family lived in several states and ended up in Houston, Texas where she graduated from San Jacinto High School. She attended one semester of college at Texas Women’s and then returned to Houston to begin married life. She loved gardening, attending Bible Study, watching old movies and visiting with lifelong friends. She was artistic and creative, resourceful, intelligent, hospitable, determined and very much a perfectionist.

She had a 29 year career with the Spring Branch School District; from 1971 until her retirement in 2000. She began as a Principal Secretary and went on to teach ESL at the elementary and middle school levels; Special Education Horticulture at Spring Branch High School; and Kindergarten at Hunter’s Creek Elementary where she created elaborate settings for interdisciplinary units that included her favorite, “Under the Big Top” circus unit where they all dressed in full costume.

In retirement, she loved traveling with her life-long friends and Bible Study group, continuing her incredible ability to make every home she lived in a show-place, and tending a garden that every master-gardener would covet.
