

Marguerite Givens graduated from Clyde High School, Clyde, Texas and, went on to attend Shannon School of Nursing and Healthcare Training in West Texas, where she earned her Nursing Degree. She worked at the San Angelo Hospital full time as a nurse until she married and then intermittently, as she chose to focus on raising her children. Marguerite lived in the same house on South Braeswood, Houston, Texas for 57 years, where she raised her family. She then moved to assisted living in 2020.
Marguerite Parks married Jack Carpenter Givens of Lincoln County, Kentucky, on May 30, 1952. They were partners in Life's journey for sixty-four (64) years, until Jack passed on November 20, 2014. They have two children, Malinda Marie Givens (deceased), married to Dan Burke of Parker, Texas and George Edward Givens, married to Christine Givens of Spring, Texas. She has four grandchildren, Christopher Daniel Burke, married to Jean Burke of Parker, Colorado; Skye Marie, Leili Gayle, and Rachel Qing Givens of Spring, Texas; and two great-grandsons, Vaughn Christopher Burke of Alexandria, Virginia and Peter James Burke of Parker, Colorado.
Marguerite is predeceased by her brother, Forrest Parks and daughter, Malinda Marie Givens.
Marguerite Givens was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church serving in several different locations due to job transfers for Jack. She was a current member of The First United Methodist Church of Houston (downtown). Over her 94 years, Marguerite was a member/officer of the Braeburn Valley Garden Club of Houston, Texas; a member of Eastern Star, Troop Leader for Girl Scouts of America and a member in good standing of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), General Bernardo de Galvez Chapter, NSDAR.
A visitation for Marguerite will be held Monday, April 21, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:45 PM at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. A funeral service will occur Monday, April 21, 2025 from 12:45 PM to 1:30 PM, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. A committal service will occur Monday, April 21, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038.
