On January 14, 2011, Maria Escamilla grew her angel wings as her soul flew from Earth to Heaven, where she now watches over her loved ones. Maria was born on the second of February in 1925 to Delfina and Timoteo Morales in Brownsville, Texas. At the age of eighty-five, it is safe to say that Maria lived a long life full of happiness and family.
Maria is survived by her husband, Luis Escamilla Sr.; two sons, Ramon Galvan and Jesse Astorga Jr.; three daughters, Adelaida Alabado, Rosa A. Hernandez, and Helen Breiten; thirty-one grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren as well as great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Delfina and Timoteo Morales; all five siblings; five sons, Tomas Galvan, George Astorga Sr., Ralph Escamilla Sr., Paul Galvan Sr. and Luis Escamilla Jr. as well as two grandchildren, Jesse Astorga Jr. and Paul Galvan Jr.
Maria Escamilla, a strong and resilient woman as well as a loved mother and grandmother, spent her time raising her ten children and then later her five grandsons, Ralph, Robert, Rene, Richard and Ruben Escamilla. She enjoyed planting flowers, making her homemade tamales, and having a house full of family. Full of life, her house seemed to be the setting for all family gatherings, no matter what the scenario. She was a mother that was always there for her children, always behind them with support, and always showering them with love. Maria will be truly missed and, with the sight of a beautiful flower or the taste of real tamales, remembered always.
