When Maria De La Luz Mata walked into the room, those in her company felt energy, an enthusiastic spontaneity. This was just one example of who Maria was and how she impacted those around her. Maria was a clever and gregarious person who always sought out the finest attributes in other people. It was as if Maria wanted to share all of their experiences, revel in their lives and celebrate their discoveries. Maria was tireless and had boundless enthusiasm that would serve her well throughout her life.

      Maria was born on 31 de diciembre de 1961 at San Andrés del Cubo in Guanajuato, Mexico. She was the daughter of Carlos and Ramona Sanchez. Maria was raised in San Andrés del Cubo. Always at the ready with a good joke, she grew up to be quite a humorous person. While some who knew Maria might describe her as an idealist, her friends and family understood well that Maria was always in pursuit of life’s endless possibilities and opportunities available to her.

      There was always a certain style and inventiveness to Maria. She was a dynamic, self-expressive person who was forever looking to celebrate the endless possibilities life had to offer. She had a knack for being clever, creative and witty, and for others, was a joy to be around. While she was often fiercely independent, it seemed as if many others looked to Maria Mata for inspiration, leadership, wisdom and even courage. Maria was always more than willing to share life’s experiences with her loved ones.

Vivió en Houston por más de 4 décadas y durante esas 4 décadas tocó a muchos vidas e hice muchos amigos. María era única. Dio la bienvenida a todos en su casa y los hizo parte de su familia. Ella siempre estuvo dispuesta a ayudar a los demás sin importar qué. Su amor por su familia, nietos y amigos cercanos era inconmensurable. Para los más queridos de su corazón, la conocía como Guera, Momo, Tía Guera, Luz y Mamá. Ella es el corazón de la familia y la extrañaremos mucho, pero nunca la olvidaremos.

María es hija de Carlos y Ramona Sánchez, hermana de Luis, Isidro, Mike (fallecido), Inez, Juan. Deja atrás a su pareja de 12 años, José Rivera, un hijo, Juan Francisco Mata; una hija, Laysa Janet Mata; una nuera, Cinthya Mata; 8 nietos, Nicole, AJ, Denilton, Naelson, Sofya, Cristian, Valerie y Anaya. También deja muchas sobrinas, sobrinos y primos.

El funeral será el viernes 14 de mayo de 2021 de 10:30 a.m. a 11:30 a.m. El entierro seguirá después del servicio de internamiento en Brookside Memorial Park.

Maria de la Luz Mata, 59, of Houston, Texas, passed away May 6, 2021. She was born in San Andres del Cubo on December 31, 1961. She lived in Houston for over 4 decades and throughout those 4 decades she touched many lives and made many friends. Maria was one of a kind. She welcomed everyone into her home and made them part of her family. She was always willing to help others no matter what. Her love for her family, grandchildren and close friends were immeasurable. For those dearest to her heart, knew her as Guera, Momo, Tia Guera, Luz, and Mom. She is the heart of the family and will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

Maria is the daughter of Carlos and Ramona Sanchez, sister to Luis, Isidro, Mike(Predeceased), Inez, Juan. She leaves behind her partner of 12 years, Jose Rivera, one son, Juan Francisco Mata; a daughter, Laysa Janet Mata; a daughter-in-law, Cinthya Mata; 8 grandchildren, Nicole, AJ, Denilton, Naelson, Sofya, Cristian, Valerie and Anaya. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The funeral service will be Friday, May 14, 2021 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The burial will follow after the committal service at Brookside Memorial Park.
