It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Maria C. Tamayo, who entered eternal rest on August 27, 2025, at the age of 78. Maria was born in Cardenas, Mexico, to Jose and Maria Del Carmen Colmenero. She grew up in Harlingen, Texas, where she graduated from Harlingen High School—Go Cardinals!
She was known to all as Connie. She was a woman of many passions. She was a lifelong plant enthusiast, with a special love for flowers and roses, which brought beauty to her life and home. Her warm heart and green thumb were a reflection of her nurturing spirit. As an avid sports fan, Connie found great joy in cheering on her beloved Houston teams, especially the Oilers and Astros, showing her fierce loyalty through the highs and lows of every season.
Above all, Connie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, and her beloved daughter Angelica. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her loving husband of 54 years, Alfredo Jr., her four sons—Alfredo III, Roberto, Jesus (Sophia), and Christopher—and her ten grandchildren: Ramon, Timoteo, Ava, Catherine, Jesus Jr., Tomas, Briana, Trinity, Casimira, and Roberto Jr. She was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Grayson, Hunter, Audree, Isaiah, and Violet.
Maria’s life was a testament to love, strength, and unwavering faith. She devoted herself to her family, and her legacy will be cherished by all who knew her.
A favorite Bible verse that reflects the love and nurturing spirit she embodied is Proverbs 31:25-26: "She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue."
