

Maribel Fielding Spiller McCleary went to be with the Lord on May 19, 2015. She was born October 2, 1924 to Helen Muske Spiller and William Marcellus Spiller in Giddings, Texas. At the age of four, she and her parents moved to Houston where she lived the remainder of her life.
She attended Reagan High School and Rice (Institute) University, graduating in October of 1944. Upon graduation she went to work at Humble Oil and Refining Company where she met John Ernest McCleary, who had just returned from the service. They married in September of 1946 and were blessed to share 45 years in loving marriage. John died December 20, 1991. Later she married Thomas Adkins, M.D. who predeceased her.
Maribel is survived by her daughter Mary Fielding McCleary and husband, Jerry S. Sutton and her daughter, Jan Elizabeth McCleary Benjamin and husband Robert C.A. Benjamin. Maribel adored her grandchildren Stephen Fielding Sutton, Elizabeth Fielding Benjamin Wade, Sarah Kyle Benjamin Smith, John Robert Muller Benjamin and grandson-in-laws Captain Charles Colby Smith and Mark Charles Wade. She was preceded in death by her two dear friends, Lucille Musgrave Clarke and Dorothy Weghorst Evershade, who she missed everyday. She was blessed to have Sue Alexander Morrison as a loving friend who survives her, along with countless other dear friends who shared her love and support over so many years.
Maribel loved her Lord, her family, her friends and her country. All these were precious to her. A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, May 26, at 3:00 at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay, Houston, TX 77024. Friends are invited to a visitation after the service. In lieu of flowers memorials can be given to KHCB (Keeping Him Close By) Radio, 2424 South Blvd., Houston, TX 77098 and Chapelwood Foundation, 11140 Greenbay, Houston, TX 77024.
