

She graduated from Centenary College in Shreveport, LA. When she was teaching school in Houma, LA, she met Charles Zagst. They were married on December 14, 1941.
Charles and Marie were part of the founding members of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church. She was a member of the St. Cecilia’s Women’s Club and the Catholic Charity Guild.
Widowed in 1985, Marie always lived life to the fullest. She was a wonderful model to both her family and friends of how to live a rich, meaningful life. She “wore out” rather than “rust out.”
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles and her grandson Benjamin. She is survived by her sons and their wives, Chuck and Terry, Walter and Doris, Fred and Kay; and her grandsons and their wives, Trey and Joni, and Rusty and Angela and four great grandchildren, Jacob, Spencer and Tatum Zagst and Garrett Lancaster.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 31, 2012, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm in the Chapel at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road, Houston, Texas 77055. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 1, 2012, at 10:00 am at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 11720 Joan of Arc Drive, Houston, Texas 77024. Entombment will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 11720 Joan of Arc Drive, Houston, Texas 77024.
