Mark was born on September 29, 1960, in Lahore, Pakistan, to Carol Shoemaker and Thomas Rizzo. He held dual citizenship. He was lovingly raised in Escondido by his grandparents, Richard and Dorothy Shoemaker, whom he proudly considered his parents.
Mark attended elementary, junior high, and high school in Escondido before going on to study at UCLA, where he was awarded a music scholarship and played classical violin in the university orchestra. He graduated with a degree in History and Political Science. Mark later earned both a Juris Doctor and a Master of Business Administration from Whittier School of Law, proudly receiving a “double hood” at graduation—an achievement he cherished deeply.
Mark was a dedicated and successful attorney in California, known not only for his professional accomplishments but also for his generous heart. He frequently worked pro bono, offering legal assistance to those in need, guided by a deep commitment to helping others.
He shared his life and love with Hanh, and together they raised their beloved Rottweilers—Mirage, Athena (“The Great and Empress of All Dogs”), and Jolie-Jolie. Mark's infectious laugh could light up any room and was known to carry from far away.
Mark is survived by the love of his life, Hanh; his three half-sisters; and eight cherished nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Richard and Dorothy Shoemaker, and by his father, Thomas Rizzo.
Mark will be remembered for his brilliant mind, compassionate heart, and unforgettable spirit. He touched the lives of many and will be missed dearly.
