Martha Dee Schmidt (Richardson), 79, of Houston, was taken into the loving arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 8, 2023. Dee was born in Kingsville, Texas, on October 21, 1943, to Vallie Dee and J. D. Richardson. Her family moved to Wharton, where Dee graduated from high school. She is also a graduate of The University of Texas Medical Branch, receiving a Bachelor of Science in nursing in 1966.
She married Jim Schmidt of Galveston that same year. Dee was a member of Sigma Theta Tau, a scholastic nursing fraternity. As an R.N., she worked briefly at Hotel Dieu School of Nursing in El Paso, and Hermann Hospital in the Houston Medical Center. She and her husband raised two children, Polly and Bubba, and they were the delight of her life. But above all, she loved the living and written Word of God, the Lord Jesus Christ. She dedicated her life to serving Him through Bible studies, prayer groups, and using the gift of helps that He gave her. She had the joy of leading and or learning that her children and grandchildren had come to Christ.
Dee was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband and her brother, David. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Polly and Jerry Holmes, of Cypress, their children, Brianna and Brooke, and her son and daughter-in-law, Jim (Bubba) and Pam Schmidt of Houston, and their children, Christian and Mackenzie; her sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Gary Speer of San Antonio; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dee was a member of Pine Valley Bible Church.
The memorial service will be held at Bethel Church of Houston at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 24, 2023, with The Reverend Dr. Bob Tolson and The Reverend Bruce Bumgardner officiating.
