Gosh,  My Favorite Uncle Martin,  I have so many memories of you.  From a toddler to me as a 47 year old.  Where do I start… all I can say is that you always stood in when father couldn’t/didn’t.  How can I ever thank you.  Memories of so many wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations at you Aunt Mary’s house; they were always the best.  You touched my sons life like no others. He loved you so much. Thank you. What ever you said. Thank you. Sarah loves you with all heart and will miss crazy uncle Martin.  We love you! We miss you already. Rest easy. We will see you again.

I knew Martin in my childhood. The Jassos, his relatives lived next door to me. My best friend Robert Jasso was Martin's cousin and they would visit often. We were kids and we would play as children. We would climb trees and throw rocks and make bows and arrows and shoot them around like little boys like to do. We grew up together. We also had classes together at Burleson Elementary.  

I'll never forget in the 6th grade two guys wanted to beat me up for God knows what reason: envy I guess. The day of the fight Martin approached me and told me that he would back me up. It was entirely unsolicited. He just felt he had to help me. When the fight happened, sure enough, he was there and in fact helped me out. That's just the kind of guy he was. We then heard heard the sound of a police whistle and everybody scattered.
After high school we all went our separate ways. I didn't have contact with Martin until the last few years. We were all doing the "life" thing. Life gets in the way. It was my loss. I know that he did well. I wish I had been there to accompany him.

 I will never forget Martin Robledo Jasso. One wonders how often a man like Martin comes around in life: Every hundred years? Every thousand years? The answer is Never... there will never be another Martin Jasso Robledo. He was one of a kind.  

We are sure going to miss you Uncle Martin. You have been so good to all of us. Thank you for being such a good man and gentleman to all of us. There are so many great memories of us all together at your house. My favorite times were Christmas. The dinners and gift exchanges we're so joyous! You set such a good example for us girls as to how a man should treat his wife. We know how much Aunt Mary, Jeff, Greg, Bella and Elli mean to you and we will keep loving them for you. I plan to join you in Heaven someday. May God Bless your soul. We love you and will miss you tremendously.

Dear Mart! You've been our family for many decades. To say that you will be missed is an understaement. We are comforted by the assurance that there will be many more reunions. We are encouraged by your example  of your brave and  dilligent struggle with your illness. 
So you peacefully went before us. I hear heaven is a beautiful place. I know your soul is resplendant and resting gloriously. While you bask in it's glory, please save us a place.
Know that Mary and your boys will be in our prayers.

Our families grew up together.  Since I was one of the younger first cousins, my early memories of Martin are of large groups of cousins going back and forth to each others homes.  I was able to get to know Martin as an adult when we both ended up living in California and then in Clear Lake. We got closer still when Martin helped complete the renovation of our home in Houston.

Martin had the mind of an engineer and the heart of a poet.  Everything he did with his hands was done with precision. He willingly shared his talents and expertise. He was a natural story teller. Reading the book he wrote, Selma, transported me back to the west side of San Antonio where we grew up.  He shared fascinating stories of his inventions.  Rarely did I see Martin without a smile as he shared his adventures growing up.

His love of Mary, the boys and his granddaughters never faltered.  May you find comfort in knowing you were always at the heart of all he did. 

Primo, we will miss you.  Thank you for being part of our lives.

I will always remember Martin's smile and warm manner. He was a gentleman,  un caballero.   He always asked about the family and he was close to my brothers. Always giving advice to Moe on flipping houses. He served in the Navy.  He will be truly missed. Love you cuz. ♡♡♡

If I shared all the memories that I have our Martin, I would have to write a book.
I'll share one that I didn't even share with Martin himself.
Around 1964 a school nurse was sharing with me of an exemplary student attending Edgewood High School where she was working.  She told me of this young man who had a very difficult life growing up, but he still found a way to excel in school.  She had never seen a student like him.  
She went on to share his story with me.  I knew she was talking about Martin.  I finally asked her what was the name of the student.  She didn't feel comfortable telling me his name.  I made it easy for her and told her his  name.  She was stunned, especially when I told her he was my cousin.  
That nurse, as many others, recognized his intelligence.   
Martin, we will always love you and will never forget you.  
You were one of a kind.

Martin was my Primo Hermano.  We grew up together. He lived 5 blocks away from us. We shared our everyday experiences.
Even as we grew up and grew away from each other, we were still TOGETHER.
Martin, we will join you some day. Keep an eye on us. We still have to continue our journey. Someday we will be together again. 
May God grant Mary and all of Martin's love ones the comfort and strength that we will need to continue on this earth until we are reunited in Heaven.
