OBITUARIO
Mary Ann Gartman
3 agosto , 1935 – 14 febrero , 2021
After a full life of 85 years, Mary Ann passed away in peace and comfort at home with family. She joyfully contributed to the betterment of humanity by serving as a nurse for over 25 years. Mary Ann's favorite pastimes were a day out fishing or a busy day on the dance floor with TC. She loved to cook her famous dump cake and take it and many other dishes to share with others at the dances. The dances were the highlight of her week. She loved to visit with her friends there. She also enjoyed entertaining at home, whether it was cooking Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Easter dinner or just another night she wanted to invite us all over even if it was just coffee with friends and family. Mary Ann loved people and loved to spend time together and to help others where she could. Sometimes it was just in giving of herself to listen to someone with a problem, that was hurting that needed to be heard. She always made time for others. She felt like God asked us to do that like He would do if He were here on Earth. She was a wonderful witness of Christ's love.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband C.E. Roberts Sr., her mother Mary Huffstutter, her sister Billie Wynne, and her brother Roy Charles. She is survived by her sister Jan Rose and her husband Bill Hardin. Mary Ann's surviving children and their spouses Curtis E. Roberts, Jr. and his wife Kanokporn, Cindy Roberts Harrell, Lisa Roberts Brewer and her husband Greg. Mary Ann had six grandchildren, Curtis E. Roberts III and Madeleine Grace Sorensen and husband Eric, Chris "Joey" Harrell and wife Sheri and Michael Harrell and wife Kim, Greg Brewer Jr. and wife Melanie and Jon Brewer and wife Kathryn and six great-grandchildren, Sarah Harrell and Izzy Harrell, Garrett Harrell and Maddie Kate Harrell, Carter Brewer and Avery Brewer and many cousins and one uncle, Uncle Labon Tompkins.

Today we laid my grandmother in her final resting place. She was a truly wonderful woman who loved everyone. She would do anything for anyone who needed anything any time she had the chance. She was a saint — a home for many who had no place to go, a hot meal for many who had no food to eat, and a warm smile for many who had no strength left to give. In short, she was a shelter from the storm for many a tired soul. She touched plenty of lives, all for the better, and she will be remembered fondly for a long time to come. The warmth and light of her actions will ripple out through the world for eternity, and anybody who knew her would say precisely that. There are few people I’ve ever known who were as wonderful as her. No matter how she felt, she always had a smile for you, and it was as radiant as it was infectious.
She was laid to rest exactly where she belongs — right next to her mother. Rest in peace grandma 💜

Mary Ann always wore a smile and was always a delight to be around. She had a knack to make her family and friends feel special. And when she graced the dance floor, you couldn't help but to watch her. We know she is in a beautiful place now...until we meet again, we hold you in our thoughts!

Mary Ann was such a beautiful soul. She was always there if I needed someone to talk to or vent to. We had many conversations sitting at her little table in kitchen sipping on our coffee. I remember she always had these little solar flower things that would sit in her window seals and they'd be just dancing away when the sun hit them! There wasn't a conversation I couldn't talk to her about and she never judged. She'd call me in the mornings and tell me she just put on a fresh pot of coffee and to walk down and have a cup! We'd somehow end up making breakfast and giggling about something silly along the way. She taught me how to cook pierogis from scratch and giggle a little if I messed up but always lended a helping hand. She will be deeply missed and my heart is sadden that she is no longer with us. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and I love you all very much.

Aunt Mary Ann was a beautiful person with a heart of gold. She had a way of loving people, she knew people are all different but she loved everybody for who they were. Her smile and laugh were contagious and lite up a room. She made everyone feel loved and welcome. I have so many memories with her, she was the best Aunt growing up and I’ll cherish her love always. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her. As we celebrate her life today, though it will be sad all Glory be to God for giving her to us for so many memorable years. I love you Aunt Mary Ann, you will be missed by many. Until we meet again, I Love You!

I loved the times over the many years when we came to Houston for a visit, Mary Ann would cook up a feast and invite us all over to consume big pots of stew or soup or red beans & sausage, or her award winning chili, but my all time favorite was her Gumbo. We would all sit around the table or stand with a plate and talk and laugh. Mary Ann’s door was always open, literally! And when we were young and our Mom was struggling, there was absolutely no one more caring and loving and generous to help us through those hard times. I’ve never met anyone like her. There is an empty spot where her vitality filled the world.

Aunt Mary Ann, was a kind and dear person. With mom and her sisters, there were many times throughout life that their love and friendship brought the family together. During our childhood, we spent a lot of time at the bay, fishing and creating special memories. Most importantly, the time we spent around the kitchen table at her home in Spring Branch during the early years and around mom’s kitchen table at the lake in the later years, are memories that I will always cherish. God Bless Aunt Mary Ann and may she be sharing a great reunion with our family members that have passed on before. Much love to you all!

A beautiful soul. A woman who would give the shirt off her back if it meant to make someone else smile. An intelligent lady with lots of advice and support to give. Always willing to lend an ear, to lend a hand, and to lend her heart when one needed it. The countless hours of sweet conversation. Watching her dance an evening away which brought never ending joy to her heart. She could light up a room with her smile. I will never forget the life I shared with her growing up just two houses down. The dinners we shared. The holidays we shared. Beautiful memories that I will carry on for the rest of my life as I hope to be half the woman she was during her life. She held a special place in my heart and will forever hold that place. I love you Mary Ann & I will miss you.

My condolences to all the family. Aunt Mary Ann loved many and was loved by many. I have so many memories with her and all of you, that I’ll cherish and carry in my heart forever. Some of those memories were spending time at the bay house in the water to the one on land, vacation to Mexico and so much more! She was beautiful and loving to all.
To my cousins, I’m so very sorry for your loss, and pray for strength, comfort and peace, that only the Lord can provide during this time and the days ahead.
I love you and may God Bless you.

Such a beautiful soul and amazing woman. We had a lot of wonderful conversations, shared great food, and played fun games. She always offered great advice and welcome arms at any time. I will miss her dearly and regret I didn't get to spend some time with her before she passed. So sorry for the void her passing will create with her family. Love you Mary Ann.

Beautiful picture of a beautiful lady. Mary Ann always welcomed us with "Come on in". She always had a smile, no matter how she felt. We always enjoyed visiting with Mary Ann because she was always upbeat and especially ready to go to the dance or have a big crowd over to share a meal.
While the celebration is going on in heaven, peace be with all friends and family that are missing her.
With our love,
Joyce and George

I am her nephew and was close to Mary Ann and family in my youth. My fondest old memories of her always led to a bay or bayou. Fishing or cooking, she offered fair competition at either.
Her small acts of kindness affected everyone around her. Her greater acts changed lives. Mary Ann was there for me when I needed her most and I will always be grateful.

She always said kind words to everyone that she came in contact with and always willing to lend a helping hand with either by words of wisdom or as far as helping a complete stranger. I would always come by to have coffee or breakfast and dinner with her for many years. She will be forever missed but will never be forgetten. We love you very much Grandma and we will see each other again one day.

I want to tell you all thank you so much for all of your prayers and all of your visits when she was here with me and even afterwards. Your love and support and friendship means the world to me. I am so grateful I got the opportunity her last week to tell her, even though it was on the phone how glad I was to have her as my mom and how lucky I was to have her. That she was a wonderful mom and that I was so proud of the woman she was and the things she had done in her life. I also told her that I had always thought of her as my best friend and I was so grateful to have had her as my mom. And I was thankful for all the great, happy memories I have to hold onto now of the things we did together and time we spent together. I told her I wanted her to be at peace and to be with God and for her to go be with my dad and my mamaw, her mother. I told her she didn’t deserve to have to be in pain or scared and that she had always been the kindest , loving and most giving person I‘d known. Anyway, I'm thankful I got to tell all these things. Because I told her all the time I loved her but not that part. She was a very special lady and we were truly lucky to have her as our mom. She not only loved her family she loved her friends and enjoyed spending time with you all any time you could come by. Thank you for loving her too.
